Quinoa is a Plant Based Grain that is gluten free and high in protein. Quinoa has 9 of the essential amino acids we need. Quinoa is high in fiber, magnesium, B-vitamins, iron, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, vitamin E and various beneficial antioxidants.

Quinoa is a healthy alternative if you are trying to add in more soluble fiber to your diet. Both Soluble and insoluble fibers are important for health, digestion, and preventing diseases. Soluble fiber attracts water and turns to gel during digestion. This slows digestion. Soluble fiber is found in oat bran, barley, nuts, seeds, beans, lentils, peas, and some fruits and vegetables.

Ok back to Quinoa is a grain that has come from the Inca tribe which was referred to the “Mother Of all Grains”. Quinoa is also very have and minerals and vitamins. Vitamins include as B’s, magnesium, iron, vitamin E, Potassium, folic, and copper just to name a few. Quinoa is non-GMO, gluten-free and usually grown organically. Even though technically not a grain, it still counts as a whole grain food.

Quinoa also contains flavonoids that are quercetin and kaempferol. Flavonoids are plant antioxidants that have great beneficial effects for your health. Both quercetin and kaempferol are anti-inflammatory and are both anti-viral, anti-cancer, and anti-depressants as well. Quinoa comes in different colors and forms. You can buy Quinoa Pasta, Cereals, Bars and more. You can sub out rice for Quinoa, and add it to soups and salads. You can use Quinoa in replace of your oatmeal and have Quinoa breakfast porridge instead! Quinoa is also great for those who have high blood sugar and need something with a low glycemic index. Quinoa can help also with your Metabolic Health by being less in calories than white rice, or other grains.
